Edgar Allan Poe fan club

We shiver with delight at the tintinnabulation of The Bells. We swoon For Annie and sigh for Annabel Lee. We are drunk on Amontillado as we laugh at the Angel of the Odd or Why the Little Frenchman Wears is Hand in a Sling. We are mesmerized by one of the greatest American writers in history.....forevermore.

Music for the Master

Started by Rev. Demetrius Hunt Apr 9. 0 Replies

So, does anyone here have music that instantly makes them think of Poe's works? For me, Alice Cooper's "Ballad of Dwight Frye" makes me think of his poem "Alone". "Sound of Silence", in any of it's…Continue

So, my fellow Poe fans. When you read short stories or poems, don't you ever feel like there aren't enough parodies? What stories or poems would you most like to see as parodies and if you were to…Continue

True! Nervous...very, very nervous had I been and am! But why would you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses...not destroyed them.

That is good news, Lizzie. I wonder when it will officially open to the public?  I've been to his home in Philly, but last I was there it was pretty stark, just empty rooms except for the film.  I've been to the one in Baltimore, too, but did not go inside.  It had been closed, dunno if it reopened or not.  Did go to his gravesite, though.  His was a sad life.

I've never seen anyone dress up as Edgar Allan Poe to a Steampunk event. I see Lincoln quite a bit as well as Mark Twain but never Poe. Does anyone else find this surprising? not that I go to many Steampunk events. That would probably be a factor.

This is a silhouette I cut and is my own personal interpretation of what I think Poe would have looked like, perhaps a few years before his death. As far as I am aware, there are not very many existing silhouettes attributed to being him. I’ve only come across two, one of which looked as though he would have been much younger, the other not at all how I think he would have appeared, thus, I cut my own :)

I'm glad you liked it :)

Off topic, but I read in an article that Christopher Lee (who has a marvelous voice) is such a fan of Tolkien he reads Lord of the Rings once a year and would quote on the set, word for word, excerpts. Dunno how true it is. He portrayed a fantastic Saruman ('of many colours', just as Lee. himself, has worn the robes of many different characters :)

Speaking of voices :) I, for some reason, am very fond of John Hurt’s voice. It is similar to Sean Pertwee’s and Mark Sheppard’s. I wonder if they are from the same area, or if it is just the raspiness. It may be why I like Tom Waits', too, maybe.

She gave it to me about 3 years ago, I think she got it on ebay.  Geez, I just checked there (ebay) and it's cheaper than what you quoted, but still expensive! Wow, I better take good care of it!
